Spider-Man Spider-Man Does Whatever a Marvel Want

Spider-Man is "finally" coming home to Marvel, as Marvel Studio takes on the responsibility of producing his future endeavours. Kind of. Sony will still technically own, release, and have final say on what happens with the popular superhero, but Marvel Studio is going to produce the films in which he appear. That's right, plural.

Other than the original date in 2017 (which coincidentally means "Thor: Ragnarok" is moving to November 3rd, 2017) the press release says that Spider-Man will appear in one other Marvel Cinematic Universe film before that time. Which that is can be up to debate, but consensus is that it will be "Captain America: Civil War". There has already been rumours that Marvel wanted Spider-Man to appear in that film, and it seems that they now get their wish. 

But how good is this? One of the things that made Marvel as successful as they are is that they had to work with what they had. They had sold off most of their biggest characters' film rights, and were left building a multimedia powerhouse on the scraps that remained. Spider-Man is without a doubt the biggest Marvel character there is, people will show up to a new film just because he is Spider-Man. I guess if Marvel had to get Spider-Man this is an ideal point as they've already established their universe and the new major players within it. We will just hope that Spidey doesn't end up pushing them out. I guess we'll see as the years progress.

It is also worth noting that the press release offers no new information about the already existing Spider-Man franchise, but one can assume that it will not be the one continuing with Marvel, rather they'll start anew with a new Spider-Man and just skip the origin story as their new preference dictate. Perhaps this will lead to a Spider-Man who leads what many assume will be a new rooster of Avengers in the first part of "Infinity War". Especially as it now seems that "Inhumans" will be released after "Infinity War", meaning they likely had no part in the big franchise show-down.

Tremors 5 Pushed Forward

That didn't take long! Just one week into the new year Michael Gross himself came with a very exciting reveal regarding "Tremors 5" over at his Facebook page. 

That's right, "Tremors 5", previously slated for a 2016 release, has been pushed forward to October of this year. Just about one year after the original announcement of the film. If you remember, a lot of people thought that something like summer/fall 2015 was the logical time for the film's release when taking into account the type of film, budget, and today's need-it-now mentality. Having the film released in 2016 made some think they might take their time with it, doing the best they can with what they have. This of course doesn't mean that they've just decided to not even give the film a chance, it is possibly just to capitalise on the Halloween season. I guess we'll all find out this fall.

Michael Gross: "Universal Press Release Tomorrow!"

It's been a while since we last heard anything about the fifth Tremors film that is allegedly shooting in South-Africa at the moment, but tomorrow we will learn everything.

Michael Gross writes today on his Facebook that Universal Studios is going to release a press release tomorrow as to why he's been in South-Africa playing with "exotic fauna". Considering how playful he's been in the comments of his Facebook page regarding Tremors, I'd say there's a good 90 % chance that Tremors 5 is going to be announced tomorrow. If not, there will be a lot of annoyed fans that might sour on Michael Gross entirely.

What is perhaps the most interesting about his post is that it contains a picture of a warthog, a species of animal specifically named after Africa, and that isn't present in Australia. Could they have changed the script S.S. Wilson and Maddock wrote ten years ago so much that they needed an entirely new location? It will be interesting to see what kind of details Universal will give up tomorrow, and how they fit in with the story that's been leaking through for the past few months. If it isn't a fifth Tremors film, it has to be something related to the franchise.

Update:
Michael Gross has said that the warthog pictured in his post does not feature in the film at hand, but a lion does. More or less confirming the apparent new setting of the film. I am starting to think that this fifth installment of the Tremors franchise might see Burt travel to Africa to go on some kind of safari, be it of the hunting kind or not. It's definitely more up in the character's alley than Australia, which has little big game for the man with the elephant gun.
